Winslet praised those who have come forward in the recent Hollywood sex scandal

Kate Winslet says the “tide is turning” for women in the workplace and in Hollywood.

She told the audience at the Harper’s Bazaar Women Of The Year Awards: “I’m sure I stand shoulder to shoulder with every woman and man here in supporting those who have had the recent courage to speak up.

“We will create change in the workplace, whatever that workplace will be.”

Winslet, 42, who won the British actress award, went on to present Jodie Foster with the inspiration award. Fellow star Ruth Negga, 35, was named woman of the year.

She spoke about growing up as the only black child at her school in Limerick, Ireland, adding: “You’re outside of something, which gives you a unique perspective.”

Other winners at the ceremony at Claridge’s in Mayfair included Carey Mulligan, who was given the philanthropy award, Victoria Beckham, who won the British brands prize, and Adwoa Aboah, who won the role model award.

Guests included Negga’s boyfriend, the actor Dominic Cooper, Georgia May Jagger and Gemma Arterton.
